No Gold Medals have been
awarded by Fleuroselect for the year 2000, so there
will be no Golds for the Millennium. They say that
whilst many excellent entries were received, none
was considered to be so stunning or such a
significant advance in flower breeding as to
deserve a Gold Medal &endash; and having seen the
trials last year I can only agree.
However, Fleuroselect have
awarded their Quality Mark to twenty-seven
newcomers. These have been judged to be
significantly better than similar existing
varieties but not so outstanding as to deserve a
Gold Medal. One or two of these varieties will be
found in current catalogues, most will not be
available until the catalogues for the year 2000
appear towards the end of 1999.
