Raising annuals
indoors From
Bedding
Plants The majority of summer
bedding plants are raised from seed early in
the year. They may be half hardy annuals such as
zinnias, hardy annuals such as alyssum or tender
perennials such as zonal pelargoniums, which are
treated as half hardy annuals. All are raised by
sowing seed in warmth in early spring, growing on
and then hardening off before planting out in beds
and borders. Many bedding plants can be raised on a
windowsill but a greenhouse and heated propagator
will give them the best start.
