Annuals
and Bedding Plants
by

This bouncily
enthusiastic book by the British star of BBC radio's
Gardeners' Question Time is strong on leap-off-the-page
pictures and encouraging text and is ideal as a first
inspiring introduction to the subject.
There are some good ideas for planting schemes as well as
tips on raising and looking after the plants together with
excellent step-by-step how-to pictures of seed sowing taken
in the author's own garden; this proves that he's not one of
those disreputable authors who write about aspects of
gardening which they've never experienced themselves.
There's a good brief introduction to colour themes from the
hot and fiery to the cool and soothing and a brief A-Z of
recommended varieties and as a brief, crisp and encouraging
introduction to the subject it's ideal. If it's elaborate
detail and coverage of any but the most popular varieties
you're after this is not for you but it quickly reveals how
colourful and easy annuals can be.
(Unfortunately this
title is out of print but it is still possible to find
copies.)
