Nicotiana
(Flowering tobacco) Tall and swaying
Nicotiana sylvestris, discreetly supported,
shines out against the shrubby background in this
mixed border. In front pink verbenas, 'Black
Prince' antirhinums, Salvia verticillata
'Purple Rain' with its flowers like mauve millet
and the old, dependable Heuchera 'Palace
Purple' pick up colour of the purple leaved cotinus
in the background. The sweetly-scented
flowers of the nicotiana stay open longest in cool,
dull conditions and in the evenings while in bright
sunshine they may collapse until temperatures
drop. ©copyright
