Nicotiana
(Flowering
tobacco) This delicate yet prolific
green-flowered species is always admired. Its
dainty bells are open, airy and dangle at quirky
angles; look under the skirt and the blue anthers
sparkle like sapphires. Perhaps a little hardier
than other species, but even so rarely hardy in
most of Britain (zone 8), N. langsdorfii often self
sows, especially in gravel, to produce unexpected
associations - I esepcially remember the year it
emerged through a mass of white galegas. Type: Half-hardy
annual (perennial in zone 9 and above) ©copyright
